Get Real Good Facts

Wood stains today are required to meet the environmental standard of lower volatile organic compounds. Linked to pollution, smog and respiratory problems, VOCs also cause headaches and dizziness. Some may even be carcinogenic. Some of the nation’s top stains in the industry today just meet this environmental standard.

Get Real Peace-of-Mind

Maintain wood’s beauty and integrity with ultra-low VOC oil-based stains from EXPERT. Stain professionals’ and homeowners’ real peace-of-mind comes from knowing that exterior wood projects, and their immediate and global environments are safeguarded against higher off gas levels, keeping them beautifully protected during and after application, for up to three years.

EXPERT Stain & Seal is made by experts for experts, and the homeowners who demand and expect real results.

How to Apply Stain

The best application method is to use an airless sprayer and to apply a flood coat, which means to spray the board until it stops absorbing. The excess will bead up and run off without causing streak marks.

Coverage Rates

Coverage rate for most projects will be:
125-150 square feet per gallon on rough cut lumber projects
175-200 square feet per gallon on smooth cut lumber projects

Application Method

Mix contents well before use, stir contents often during use. Stir thoroughly, as pigment concentrations may settle. DO NOT THIN THIS PRODUCT. If using multiple pails of stain, mx them for consistent color uniformity. Apply using a brush, roller, stain mitt, stain applicator pad, or sprayer. Apply one coat by fully saturating the wood surface with a generous amount of stain. DO NOT ALLOW THE STAIN TO POOL OR PUDDLE ON FLAT SURFACES. Remove or spread out any stain left on the wod surface after 30-60 minutes. EXPERT Stain & Seal self levels on vertical surfaces, while back brushing may be required on horizontal surfaces. Using a dry cloth, remove puddled or excess stain after application from flat, horizontal surfaces. If not removed it may leave a shiny film on the surface, delay drying time, and cause premature failure.

EXPERT Stain & Seal's penetrating oils go deep into the wood, drying slowly for several days after application. Finished color can take up to several weeks for true color. DO NOT walk on stained surfaces for 24 hours, allowing 72 hours for light traffic.

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • What is the recommended moisture reading for wood before applying stain?

We recommend that wood have a 13% or less moisture content before staining.

  • I don't see CLEAR stain and sealer available in the options.... only honey, cedar, natural and redwood.... on this page: https://restorativewoodproducts.com/products/transparent-wood-stain-sealer?variant=40469589426199 Where can I buy the CLEAR (or is that the same as Natural?)

    Hi,

EWC S&S Clear is now sold seperately from the transparent lines because it contains no pigment. You can find it here:
    https://restorativewoodproducts.com/products/clear-fence-deck-and-wood-stain-sealer

    Thanks!

  • Installed my cedar fence in april of this yr, Ordering your cedar stain, just wondering what I should clean the fence with before staining? And should I do 1 or 2 coats? Have ordered samples from you guys to help me decide on which color to use. Great option for people on the fence:) about different colors/shades.

Ecocleaner is all you will need to clean the new fence. Our stain only requires one coat. Give us a call if you have any questions.

  • What is the minimum temperature this can be applied in?

Anywhere above freezing, but please make sure to properly clean the fence. This can be a challenge in colder temperatures as the moisture takes longer to dry.

  • What is the next lightest color of Transparent Stain from CLEAR? Assuming CLEAR has no color? Is it Cedar or Natural? Hard to tell from website.

Clear has no pigment. Natural and cedar both have a little pigment for a more natural / cedar hue.

  • Live in Alabama with a lot of heat and humidity in the summer and the same humidity in the winters which results in a lot of mold and mildew. How does it stand up to that and what is the proper cleaning to remove it each spring? I have about 2500 sq feet to cover.

    Hello,

We are based out of Tennessee with very similar weather. Our stains hold up great against the harshest conditions. Oil-based stains preserve your wood regardless of the weather conditions, and can be applied in the heat of summer or the cool of winter as long as the surface is properly prepared. The surface will be rain safe after 24-48 hours after coating depending on the humidity outside.

We use no solvents to specifically ensure as much oil as possible penetrates and protects your fence and deck.

To clean, we recommend yearly cleanings with a light Ecocleaner application. Wash, apply Ecocleaner, allow to sit for 15 minutes, and rinse!

Mold and mildew won't grow on oil-based stains. If the fence is in the shade and constantly wet, there may be light surface growth that can be dealt with during your yearly cleaning.

Fantastic product

Used to stain a white cedar fence. Application was very simple and easy. The no run formula made for a nice smooth even finish. The other part about the product that I liked was that I was able to apply in direct sunlight during a heatwave of 85 plus degrees.

Excellent products and plenty of information to do the job correctly. Definitely a premium product. Don’t waste money on cheaper items that you wish you didn’t and get the good stuff. Brilliant pigment

Amazing product. Top shelf service

I can't say enough about Caleb, his team, and their amazing product. Spray and walk away. Stain jobs take 1/3 of the time and still results in a more even application with better color consistency that any stain you'll buy at a big box store. You get better results with out labor intensive back rolling/brushing. I'll never use any other product

Excellent stain, love how it doesn’t lap and how well it performs.
I use it on our NC mountain cabin’s deck, walls and railings, weather up here is rough, this stain is the most durable I ever used.
